Four years has passed since the disaster in Jurassic Park at Isla Nublar, and InGen has economical troubles after they had to pay huge compensations to the relatives. They’d known about Site B for a long time, but haven’t made use of it beacuse John Hammond (Sir Richard Attenborough) is against it, he means that the dinosaur should be in this lost world, where the dinosaurs can live in peace from humans. Site B, located on the island Isla Sorna on the west coast of Costa Rica, was the development island, where all the dinosaurs were born. But now, after a rich British family on vacation stumbled upon Isla Sorna, where their daughter was bit by Compys, and InGen again had to pay a big compensation, Hammond’s nephew, Peter Ludlow (Arliss Howard), sees no other way than fire his uncle and take the leader job himself. He plans to catch some of the dinosaurs on Site B and move them to what was the plan in the beginning, a Jurassic Park on the mainland! It was actually built, but it was found to be too unsecure. InGen sends out an expedition to Isla Sorna to catch some dinosaurs, leaded by Roland Tembo (Pete Postlewaite). His personal goal to kill a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

At the same time John Hammond has contacted Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), the chaos mathematichan we remember from Jurassic Park. John wants him to, together with three others, go to Site B to get pictures so the island can be peaced, and get the lost world he dreams about. Ian Malcolm is in chock about this island’s existence, and after what happened last time he will in no ways go, but stop they who are on their way. Hammond has thought about this; Malcolm’s girlfriend, Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore), has already went to the island. Ian gets terrified, and wants the expedition to leave at once. His daughter Kelly Curtis (Vanessa Lee Chester), misunderstands him when he explains that she has to stay by a nanny while he is gone some days. She thinks he means that she shall come with, and hides in one of the trailers. When they, the photograph Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn), Eddie Carr (Richard Schiff), specialist on field equipment, and Ian arrived at the island find they quickly Sarah with use of the radio transmitter in her bag. But in a while they find out that their not alone on the island, but Eddie Carr was prepared for this by Hammond. He shall sabotage their plans. In a while they are found by the other group, but by that time it has already been such a big chaos that the see no other way to escape than cooperate. This works not very well, but in the end, after a great loss, they make to call a helicopter. But Peter Ludlow (Hammond’s nephew) hasn’t yet given up, and calls a heli-copter and a boat to move one of the tyrannosaurs to Jurassic Park in San Diego....

It’s here at last! The successor to «the best movie ever», Jurassic Park. And it isn’t like usual successors, either. The story works quite good, even if it’s completely different from the book. Some scenes are actually like episodes in the first JP book. It’s not quite necessary to read the book first, since you get into the story quickly and it’s clear what happens. But you should of course read Michael Crichton’s two excellent books! Some people has meant that too many humans are eaten by dinosaurs in the movie, while dinosaurs are rescued and helped. Well, if the humans could shoot all the dinosaurs they stumbled over, the movie would have been pointless and boring (this was a part of the problem with Congo, which I’ve written about before), but they don’t understand that this is the moral! Listen to John Hammond’s words in the end of the movie where he says that the humans should leave the dinosaurs in peace in their lost world. Also remember that the dinosaur are just following their instincts.
Well, since I’ve waited for this movie since 1995, searched on the Internet for the latest news and read the book The Lost World in English before it was translated into norwegian I’ve also let an completely objective person write a (small) recencation.

Ole-Endre Bergerud

I think the movie is fantastic, too. Good effects and story. Easy to get into.

Completely objective person

«It's essential that we cooperate with the Costa Rican government to make a set of rules for protection and isolation of the island. These creatures need our absence to survive, not our help. If we just step aside and trust nature, life will find a way...» John Hammond

The movie has some funny «goofs» (errors in editing, the actors do something wrong etc.), but don’t spoil the movie by looking for them the first time you watch it. For instance isn’t it so strange that Eddie can’t get the phone to work in the start, because he is holding it upside down! In the first movie it was nearly too many «goofs», look for instance at Hammond’s cloth in beginning of the movie! You may download a list with such goofs from KP’s homepage.
